A Timeless Tale of Courage and Resilience
The musical "The Sound of Music" is loosely based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers, a family of singers in 1930s Austria who flee the country to escape the Nazi takeover. At the heart of the story is Maria, a nun who becomes the family's governess and falls in love with the family patriarch, a naval captain. Together, they navigate the tumultuous political landscape and ultimately make the brave decision to flee Austria with the captain's children.Director Joe Rizzo, who has directed this production several times, has assembled a cast of some of the most talented actors he has ever worked with. Rizzo, a former school teacher of 26 years, has a particular fondness for working with the young performers in the production, many of whom he has known and taught since they were young children.Bringing the Community Together Through the Arts
Rizzo acknowledges that the rehearsal process has been a significant undertaking, especially with the beautiful summer weather that has been gracing the region. Despite the temptation to be outdoors, the cast has dedicated countless hours to perfecting their performances, showcasing the depth of Soldotna's vibrant arts community."It's even more of an undertaking when we've had a beautiful summer as we've had, and you have to have people rehearsing inside when it's 72 degrees and they should be out on the lake," Rizzo said. The production has been carefully curated to provide a concise and engaging performance for the audience, with Rizzo cutting a few scenes to ensure a tighter runtime. However, he assures that the audience will not notice the changes, as the show will still deliver a captivating and polished performance.Celebrating the Talent and Dedication of the Soldotna Community
Rizzo's enthusiasm for the production is palpable, and he hopes that the audience will leave the performance with a newfound appreciation for the exceptional talent within the Soldotna community."I hope what they'll take away from this production is what amazing talent we have in our community," Rizzo said. "It's really astounding for such a small community in which we live that we have such a great arts community. The fact that we can put together the sound of music in this little town, in the middle of the summer, is pretty astounding."Triumvirate Theatre's production of "The Sound of Music" will run for four performances, from August 9 to August 17, at the Soldotna High School. Tickets are available for purchase online, and audiences are encouraged to experience the magic of this timeless musical in the heart of Soldotna's vibrant arts scene.
