Certain vehicle brands have been particularly targeted by thieves. Statistics reveal that Chevrolet tops the list of frequently stolen makes, followed closely by Kia and Hyundai models. The latter two brands, especially those manufactured between 2011 and 2022, have become prime targets due to their lack of advanced anti-theft technology like immobilizers. This vulnerability was further exacerbated by social media trends, which inadvertently promoted these vehicles as easy targets. However, manufacturers have responded swiftly by developing new security features to mitigate the problem.
Efforts to combat car theft have intensified in specific areas of southeast and south Fort Worth, where incidents are most prevalent. Collaborative initiatives between law enforcement and local businesses have included installing deterrent devices on vulnerable vehicles and distributing steering wheel locks.
