Bryan County's Holiday Lights Drive Food to Pantry
In Richmond Hill, the Johnson family home stands out during the holiday season. For over 30 years, they have been transforming their Sweetwater Court residence into a winter wonderland. Starting with just a few lights before Halloween and gradually building up over the weeks, their display has become a local tradition. Cousin Eddie from "Christmas Vacation" and the Minions add a touch of holiday charm to the setup. It took them at least 12 days to complete the setup on November 2nd.

More Than Just Christmas Lights

This holiday display is not just about the beautiful lights. It also offers an opportunity to give back. The Johnson family is partnering with the Way Station Food Pantry to collect nonperishable food daily. Hurricane Debby had a significant impact on the pantry, but their mission to feed those in need continued. With a much smaller location and serving more people, they ensure that the food reaches families quickly. In 2023, the Johnsons collected 1,400 pounds of food and aim to surpass that this year. As Melissa Johnson said, "I feel like Christmas is truly Christmas. When you share the light of love, you can give to others."

Details of the Setup

The roof lights were the first to be added slightly before Halloween, creating a unique half-Christmas, half-Halloween look on the bottom of the house. The meticulous process of setting up the lights took them 12 days to complete. Every light is carefully placed to create a magical effect. The combination of different colors and patterns makes the display truly captivating. It's not just a house; it's a work of art that brings joy to the neighborhood.

The Impact on the Community

The Johnson family's holiday lights have become a source of pride for Richmond Hill. People from all over come to see the display and are inspired by their generosity. By partnering with the Way Station Food Pantry, they are making a real difference in the lives of those in need. The community rallies around them, supporting their efforts and contributing to the food drive. It shows that even during the holiday season, there are ways to come together and make a positive impact. The Johnson home is located at 63 Sweet Water Court, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
